Quota for Wiley full Open Access journals reached: articles accepted from now on are not covered

Lib4RI

The national article cap for cost-free Open Access (OA) publishing in Wiley's full OA journals under the 2025–2027 swissuniversities Read & Publish agreement has now been reached. Any article accepted for publication in a Wiley full OA journal from this point until the end of the year will not have its Article Processing Charge (APC) covered by the agreement, and Wiley will invoice the corresponding author directly.

A new quota will become available for articles accepted from 1 January 2027 onward. Articles submitted to full OA journals, whether before the cap was reached or at any point between now and the end of 2026, may still qualify under the 2027 cap if they are accepted from 1 January 2027 onward. Wiley re-checks eligibility at the acceptance stage.

What still works as normal

  • Wiley's hybrid journals are unaffected. The hybrid cap has its own budget, which has not been reached. Publishing OA in a hybrid Wiley journal continues to be covered by the agreement as before.

Your funding options for full OA articles accepted before 1 January 2027

  • SNSF-funded articles: the APC may in principle be eligible for SNSF Open Access funding, independent of the project budget.
  • Non-SNSF articles with an APC of CHF 2500 or less (excl. VAT): the Lib4RI Open Access Fund may apply.
  • Non-SNSF articles with an APC above CHF 2500 (excl. VAT): the library cannot cover these; alternative funding will be needed.
