Several of Lib4RI’s Open Access (OA) agreements will expire by the end of 2024. Negotiations for new agreements are ongoing but it is uncertain if subsequent agreements will be reached. This page will be updated as soon as results of the negotiations or new agreements for 2025 are available. Up to date information about our Open Access agreements is also available via the Journal Search on our website.
If no new agreements are in place by the end of the year, costs for publishing Open Access are not covered for articles accepted after December 31st, 2024. This applies to agreements with the following publishers:
If no new agreements for 2025 with these publishers are in place by the end of the year, we will also suspend funding of APCs in pure OA-journals of these publishers via the Open Access Fund.
Some of our Open Access agreements come with yearly quotas that limit the number of articles authors affiliated with Swiss institutions can publish under Open Access terms without incurring additional fees. The article quotas work on a "first come, first served" basis and are determined for each publisher across all participating institutions in Switzerland. Articles are counted towards the quota from the moment of acceptance by the publisher. For articles that have been submitted before the quota is used up, but get accepted afterwards, the publisher will charge individual authors for the Open Access option.
The article quotas with the following publishers are already exhausted for 2024:
For articles accepted in journals of ACS and Nature Research until December 31st, 2024 fees for publishing Open Access are not covered by our agreements and APCs will be invoiced to authors. Free OA publishing will be available again for articles accepted after January 1st, 2025.
If your manuscript is accepted between the quota being reached and December 31st, 2024, the publishers will still offer the possibility to publish Open Access, but the Article Processing Charges (APC) will not be covered by the agreements and will need to be covered by the author. If you are faced with this situation and lack the funds to cover these costs, the best alternative is to choose to publish under “closed access” and making use of Green Open Access to share your article publicly in the institutional repository DORA (after an embargo period). To do so, just submit the accepted manuscript of your article to DORA (@email).
