New in 2013: Databases & Reference Works

We have licensed several new databases and reference works for our users at Eawag, Empa, PSI & WSL:

SpecInfo gives access to some of the largest collections in mass spectrometry (MS), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), and Infrared and near Infrared spectroscopy. This is a trial access for 2013. Please try out SpecInfo and let us know what you think. We are especially interested in how this database compares to free spectra databases (listed in our reference section) with respect to usability, functionality and content. The Pesticide Manual Online offers pesticide information for 10’400 product names as well as more than 3’100 discontinued names.

Reaxys is now available in the premium version Reaxys Xcelerate, which includes some useful extra features.

Wiso technik now includes the database «HOLZ – HOLZtechnologie» with references to literature dealing with mechanical wood technology.

Römpp Online is an extensive encyclopaedia in chemistry and its related sciences (German only).

We have added 6 new reference works from Elsevier to our collection:

Oxford Bibliographies in Ecology is an extensive, annotated bibliography of the most important concepts and ideas in ecology. Entries have been written and reviewed by scholars in the field. Each entry includes a synoptic, narrative guide with recommendations to guide users through the citations that follow as well as a bibliography with annotations providing context for understanding citations. Each citation is linked to the full text (if available) via our link resolver «Get it at Lib4RI».

Users of the library Lib4RI now have access to all databases/reference works from de Gruyter, among which are:

• Bergmann/Schaefer Physik Online is a searchable database version of the well-known text and reference book of experimental physics. Also available in an E-Book version with PDF chapters.
• The complete archive of Handbücher der Zoologie (founded by Willy von Kükenthal) are now searchable in Zoology Online. The database gives comprehensive overviews on animal systematics and morphology as well as extensive coverage of physiology, behaviour, ecology and applied aspects of zoological research. The majority of the content is in German; new entries are added in English.
• Kluge’s Etymologisches Wörterbuch der deutschen Sprache Online explains the origins and meanings of almost 13’000 German words, e.g. Elchtest.
• The popular medical dictionary in German language Pschyrembel Premium Online explains common and important medical words, e.g. the notorious Steinlaus.
