    • GeoVITe
GeoVITe is an online portal that provides free access to federal and cantonal geospatial data for research and teaching, including Swisstopo time series, historical maps and digital elevation models. Jointly operated by ETH Library and the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformation, it has been expanded through the FAIRGeo project into an open research platform. Since March 2026, the service has been freely available to everyone without authentication. Its upgraded infrastructure supports stable URL-based queries, long-term sharing of datasets and visualisations, improved metadata and future assignment of persistent identifiers such as DOIs. A new GeoVITe Data Manager will also allow researchers to upload, publish and manage their own geodata. Developed with input from the research community, these improvements are turning GeoVITe from a download portal into a collaborative hub for findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable geoscience data. Please be aware of the terms of use and cite used data correctly.
    • Geoportal of the Swiss Confederation
geo.admin.ch is the geographical information platform of the Swiss Confederation. The implemented map viewer allows the interactive presentation of maps and the inclusion of thematic geographical data using a standard Web browser. The respective datasets can be ordered directly from the responsible data supplier. Most datasets are also included in GeoVITe.
    • geocat.ch
geocat.ch is the metadata catalogue of Switzerland's geodata. Federal, cantonal and municipal offices as well as private firms use geocat.ch to publish metadata for their own geodata.
