New — expanded research data management pages

Lib4RI

Thanks to feedback from researchers and the scientific-IT teams across the four research institutes, we have expanded and reorganised our Research Data Management pages. The update introduces an interactive navigation wheel and more than a dozen new or revised pages that make it easier to find the guidance and services you need.

Research data management (RDM) is an integral part of the scientific research process and one of the pillars of modern discovery. It covers the handling of your data across the whole project lifecycle — from grant writing and data collection to analysis, sharing and long-term archiving. Good RDM at every stage supports reproducibility, reuse and impact.

Highlights include:

  • Trainings we offer and when — course descriptions and how to register
  • How to discover existing datasets — search tips and repositories to check first
  • Where to find institutional support — contacts and responsibilities across the 4 RIs
  • How to write Data Management Plans (DMPs) — templates and examples
  • Electronic lab notebooks — options and evaluation criteria
  • Cloud storage options — institutional and commercial choices to consider
  • Cluster computing (HPC) resources — how to get access and best practices
  • Version control guides — Git and workflow recommendations for research teams
  • Publishing data guide — choosing a repository, metadata and licensing
  • Publishing code guide — packaging, licensing and citation of software
  • Sensitive data guide — handling, storage and compliance considerations
  • How to increase the impact of your data, code and analyses — citation, ORCID, DOIs
  • Text data mining — rules, licences and legal considerations

These pages bring together practical how-tos, policy pointers and links to local services so you can act quickly and confidently at every stage of your project.
