Lib4RI is the joint «Library for the Research Institutes within the ETH Domain: Eawag, Empa, PSI & WSL». It was established on 1 January 2011 merging the individual libraries of the four research institutes. A review of our work (2011-2016) and a strategic outlook (2017-2020) are provided in the Lib4RI-Update #12 – Special Edition 2016: 5 Years Lib4RI – Excellent Services for Excellent Research.
As a scientific library, we provide all affiliates of the four institutes at their 11 research sites with comprehensive access to literature and technical information for research, teaching and consulting. We continuously improve our services particularly with regards to the growing trend towards electronic information provision.
The four research institutes within the ETH domain are federally funded conducting basic and applied research in science and engineering – as ETH Zurich and EPF Lausanne – at highest international level (according to bibliometric analyses by CWTS, Leiden, see annual report 2014 of the ETH board on the ETH domain).
The library Lib4RI with its three staffed main locations, Eawag-Empa Dübendorf, PSI Villigen and WSL Birmensdorf provide site- and institute-specific user services, and share site-independent services and workflows. Funded by all four research institutes, Lib4RI and its staff are organisationally and administratively associated to Eawag.
