Electronic resources: changes in 2020

Jason Dey, Dimitris Antonakis & Dr. Lothar Nunnenmacher, 21. January 2020

Exciting news for all you bookworms out there: We’ve added hundreds of new journals and e-books to our portfolio. At the same time, we’ve cancelled just a handful of products – mainly due to low usage. Here are the most important changes in 2020:

Big deal negotiations

Following the negotiations led by swissuniversities, the subscription contract with Elsevier was extended. The agreement includes 700 additional journals available via ScienceDirect. The negotiations between swissuniversities and Springer Nature concluded without any agreement. Springer Nature have granted temporary access to newly published journal content in 2020. The official deadline for this grace period is end of March 2020. What happens afterwards is still not clear. It is possible that you will lose direct access to Springer Nature articles published from 2020 onwards. You will certainly keep post-cancellation access to all licensed Springer Nature articles published before 2020 though. For more information and news on the big deal negotiations see our dedicated web page.
