New Service: Plagiarism Check

Scientists of the four research institutes can now get their manuscripts checked for plagiarism. Detailed information on the procedure can be found on our Services page

The Lib4RI team is offering a new service to the library patrons: Plagiarism check. We are introducing this new service due to several user requests. Since many funders and publishers run applications and manuscripts through plagiarism check software by default, the number of rejections for this reason has increased. To help our users to overcome these issues we decided to introduce a plagiarism check service in justified cases, e.g. if a manuscript has been rejected because of plagiarism.

The software solution we have chosen is PlagScan‎, which is also used at ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. The tests we conducted with this software have produced good results and the data security is higher than in comparable products. At the moment, about 25’000 journals are already included and we are currently working on the inclusion of all content licensed at Lib4RI. However, neither Lib4RI nor the service provider can guarantee the complete detection of all potential plagiarism and cannot be made liable for the results of plagiarism checks.

If you are interested in our new service we would like to ask you to visit our webpage for detailed instructions. We will then conduct the test for you and return the report. An explanation on how to read the PlagScan report can be found here and an example report here. There are also explanation videos on this topic available. However, the software only detects similarities between documents based on word sequences. In the end, the author has to evaluate the results sheet and decide whether the text contains plagiarism. We will of course keep the tests and their results strictly confidential.

Please contact us if you are interested in our new service or if you have questions.
